This document provides instructions on using the CodeReady Toolchain planner to plan and track your development work using agile development methodologies. The CodeReady Toolchain planner is a task or work item tracker to plan and execute your project work. Work items can be grouped and categorized into various work item types depending on the planning template you select for a space. You can then associate these work items to iterations and sprints to track progress and plan work.

Planning and tracking work items in your development project

Now that you have created a project, you can edit the code and stage the changes.

1. About work items

Work items are measurable units of work within a space that can be tracked. They are captured representations of work, assigned to a team member. Work items track data such as user stories, scenarios, tasks, and bugs.

The CodeReady Toolchain planner is a task or work item tracker to plan and execute your project work. It provides an Agile development process based planning template to create different types of work items to track your work.

You can use the planner to change the attributes of a work item, associate them with iterations, update their progress, and filter them according to your requirements.

The planner displays all work items in a flat or hierarchical list. These work items are grouped based on the agile work item types. It lists the Iterations and the work items associated to these iterations enabling effective execution of the project plan.

2. Planning development work

CodeReady Toolchain planner uses the Agile development methodology to track tasks as work items assigned to collaborators.

Use the Agile development process to plan and execute your project using iterative cycles as follows:

  1. In the dashboard of your space, select the Plan tab at the top of the page. The default Backlog view displays the Work Items for your space.

  2. In the Add Work Item pane, select Task from the work item type drop-down list, type the title Optimize CodeReady Toolchain resource usage, and click Add and Open to see the detailed view for the work item.

  3. In the detailed view of the work item:

    1. Change the state of the work item from New to Open.

    2. Assign it to yourself.

    3. Close the detailed view to go back to the list view.

      Modify WI
